How to Use the Keystone Help
Keystone includes an integrated, context-sensitive help system. You can open the Help from within Keystone by:
- opening the Help tab in the Keystone ribbon and clicking Table of Contents or Context Help
- pressing the F1 key on your keyboard
You can also view the Keystone Help online at http://keystonehelp.morethandata.org. In addition, you can access this and many more support resources through the MTD Help Center at http://help.morethandata.org.
There are several ways to find the information you need within the help system:
- Use context-sensitive help.
You can open Keystone's context-sensitive help in one of two ways: 1) Open the Help tab in the Keystone ribbon and click Context Help, or 2) press the F1 key. This opens the Help library, generally with information directly related to the screen you are working on. This is known as 'context-sensitive help'. When screens have multiple tabs, the Help information you see will also depend on which tab you are currently using.
Context-sensitive help may not be active when some dialog boxes or secondary windows (like the Add/Modify/Delete windows) are open. Screens in Keystone that do not support context-sensitive help have a narrower border than screens that do.
The context-sensitive Help icon is disabled for these screens.
If you select one of the drop-down fields at the top of a particular screen and then open the context-sensitive help as described above, typically you will get general help about the screen you are on. If you select a field on any of the tabs on that screen and then open the help, typically you can get help specific to that tab.
- Use hyperlinks in displayed topics.
Most topic pages in the Help include hyperlinks to related information in other topics. You can follow these links just like links on the Web. You can use your web browser's back or forward buttons to move between recently-viewed topics.
- Use the Table of Contents in the Help library.
The first tab on the left side of the Help library shows the Table of Contents. Clicking on a book
opens it to reveal the books or sections inside. Clicking on a topic
icon or the topic's name shows the contents of that topic in the pane on the right. When you open topics using hyperlinks in another topic, the Table of Contents adjusts to show your current location.
- Search the full text of the Help library.
The second tab on the left side of the Help library - labeled Search - provides a Search box in which to type what you are searching for. Results of your search are shown after you click the Search button.
You can sort your search results by Rank or by Title by clicking those column headings in the search results.
Click on a topic in the search results to open it. The terms you used in your search are highlighted in the topic.
- You may type numbers or letters in the Search box. Case is not important, and punctuation and other characters are ignored.
- To search for multiple words, type each word separated by AND or OR. (Example: Payment AND Delinquent)
- To search for a phrase, enclose it in quotation marks. (Example: "Payments Due by Amount Due")
You can save the text you used for your search by clicking the
icon next to the Search box. This saves it to the My Favorites tab on the left side of the Help library.
If you wish, you can then click the Table of Contents tab to show where the topic is located in the Table of Contents.
- Search just the topic you are viewing.
A search box is also available in the Help library's tool bar if you want to search just the topic you are currently viewing. Just enter your search terms in the
box and click the magnifying glass next to it. The terms you used in your search are highlighted in the topic.
This search option only searches the topic you currently have open. It does not search the entire Help library. To search all Help, see "Search the full text of the Help library" above.
- Bookmark a Help topic for use later. (My Favorites)
You may bookmark a topic so you can find it quickly later. You do this by clicking the
icon in the Help tool bar. This adds the topic to the My Favorites tab located on the left side of the Help library.
These favorites are stored as "cookies" in your browser. If you have cookies turned off, the My Favorites option will not work. Also, note that when you clear your browser cookies, you will lose your My Favorites list.
- Print the Help topic.
You may print a page from the Help library by clicking the
icon in the Help library's tool bar.
The Keystone Help library can be used separately from Keystone. With an Internet connection, you can view the Help library at http://keystonehelp.morethandata.org. You can also take the Keystone Help library home with you by copying it from the computer it resides on to a disk. To open it, just double-click the index.htm file in the Help folder. The Help will open in your browser.
